While speaking with Sharon Mwangi on an episode of dealing with grief on her best kept secrets podcast, Kambua Mathu, shared how she has managed to deal with grief.

Kambua narrates that she has encountered grief in dealing with the death of her grandparents then that of her father in 2014 and it was closer when she lost her son, Malachi.

"I have experienced grief in all ways from far and also a closer perspective and i got to know how to deal and unpack with my grief"

The gospel musician says that when her dad died she was very numb and exhausted when she was going through the loss of her dad.

"I think now when I look back at that numbness it was the gift of God because if I was able to feel everything, I don't think it would have been easy"

Kambua Mathu says that even with the loss of her son she had the same numb feeling but would also feel like there were rocks piled up on her chest.

"Its such a heavy feeling that even getting out of bed is a struggle, eating, taking a shower you have to be reminded to do even the simplest of things"

She says that for her the numbness and heaviness was something that was constant in both times she was grieving.

"Even after my dad died, I still held on to his number and at times I would find myself calling him and then when the realization hits me I feel triggered all over again"

The gospel artists says that for her she felt that telling someone or people telling her it is well was a bit insensitive to their pain.

She advices that in times of grief you can just do a simple act to help them go through their day to day life even if it is sitting with them , the physical presence is important.

Kambua says that all her children are special but none of them will ever replace Malachi as each child comes with their own experience and joy.
