Former KBC news anchor Laban Karani is dead

Karani is survived by his wife and two children.

The media fraternity in Kenya is mourning the sudden demise of legendary journalist Laban Karani.

Karani’s death was made public by his wife Rhoda Karani –with a revelation that the former TV Personality died at their Juja Home.

The late Journalist was battling diabetes and Hypertension.

"It is a very sad moment for the family. He was being treated for diabetes and hypertension, and his condition became more complicated. In the last few months, he had been in and out of the hospital until he succumbed to the disease," Rhoda Karani noted.

Karani is survived by his wife and two children.

Radio Citizen Presenter Fred Obachi Mochoka is among Kenyans who have mourned the veteran journalist.

“He was always a happy guy, and he embraced those of us in the industry, willing to work with us," Machoka wrote.

Laban Karani was a journalist for over 22 years – with most of his years at KBC.

He joined the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation in 1990 after graduating from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), where he worked as an editor on the radio and TV desk.

At KBC, Karani presented Swahili news and hosted the news show 'Dunia Wiki hii.' In 1998, he moved to MediaMax until 2012 he quit to join politics.

He was later elected member of the County assembly for the Mwimbi ward in Tharaka Nithi County.
