Two City lawyers have vowed to defend televangelist Ezekiel Odera who is in custody over the alleged deaths of his followers.

According to Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, the pastor is innocent adding that contrary to the number of deaths given, only 15 people have died in the Church.

"For the last one year and a month that the institution has been in existence, a total of around 15 people have died within the premises of pastor Ezekiel's church," said Omari.

Addressing the Press at Port Police Station where the pastor is being held, Omari said his client is not linked in any way to the deaths of persons in Shakahola.

Omari said no death has occurred in the church without police being notified.

The OB numbers, he stated are available and they are ready to produce them.

"None of those deaths have been reported by the church, it is the family members who bring these people who report before they are allowed to go and bury the bodies," he added.

The policy of the church, he said, is that people coming to the church for prayers or miracles must be accompanied by their family members such that when a death occurs they are the ones to report.

Odera alongside pastor Paul Mackenzie of Good News International are being held by police.

They are linked to the killing of over 100 church members.

Odera was arraigned on Friday, where it was ruled that he be detained until May 2.
