Comedian Eric Omondi has made headlines once again after securing the release of five women by paying their bills at Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

It is reported that five were being held up at Pumwani Maternity due to unpaid hospital bills. They were all in good health and ready to go home after giving birth

Eric noted in an interview that some of those detained at the facility have hospital bills ranging between Sh 2,000 and Sh 3,000.

The funnyman called on President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua to step in and order the release of other women detained in hospitals across the country.

In an Instagram post, the comedian-turned-activist urged the government to help with the situation and give it a priority.

He strongly criticized the government for the creation of more jobs for well-off people giving an example of Kidero.

"We have released 5 New Mothers who had been detained at Pumwani Maternity. Mr. President before you pay 50 CACs Sillions of Shillings before the Government buys brand new cars for the Executive, PLEASE make an order for all Mothers detained at Pumwani and across the country to be released."

Adding that,"Ulisema Serikali ni ya Mama mboga na Boda Boda. Watu wa boda boda wako Jela na mama mboga amefungiwa Pumwani."

This comes months after he also released a lady from Lang'ata Women's Prison who was jailed for shouting in CBD and did not have the finances to bail herself out.

Having successfully secured her release, Omondi vowed to help other petty offenders get their freedom.

Last month Eric Omondi facilitated the release of 22 petty offenders in Nairobi West Men's Prison who had been jailed for committing petty offenses such as hawking, selling without licenses and not adhering to county council rules, and lacking at least Ksh 10,000 bail money.
