Kelvin Kioko aka Bahati has officially joined the ruling UDA party. The singer who ran for the Mathare parliamentary seat on the Jubilee ticket in last year's general election was welcomed to the UDA on Wednesday by the party's general secretary Cleophas Malala.
In his statement on Wednesday afternoon, he made it clear that he was happy to take such a big political step.
"LOST SON 🙏 I AM HAPPY TO COME BACK HOME. I HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY RECEIVED BY THE GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE U.D.A PARTY HON. CLEOPAS MALALA, OTHER LEADERS AND FELLOW MUSICIANS IN THE HEADQUARTERS," he said.
The 30-year-old musician thanked the leader of the UDA party, President William Ruto for what he said was creating a good environment for young people to develop in this country.
At the same time, he hinted that he will compete for the Mathare parliamentary seat on the party's ticket by 2027.
The singer was accompanied by his wife Diana Marua, fellow singer KRG the Don, and MC Jessy when he was received at the UDA headquarters.
After being welcomed to the party, he was dressed in UDA clothes. In last year's election, Bahati came third in the Mathare parliamentary race while ODM's Anthony Oluoch won.
Billian Ojiwa who ran for UDA finished in second place. That was Bahati's first attempt to run for a political seat in Kenya.
After the election, he disappeared from the media and all social networks while many Kenyans speculated that he had suffered from depression due to his failure to win the election.
Earlier this year however he made it clear that he was taking a break from the public eye to focus on his music.
"I was just locked in my Home Studio making the Best Sounds of Music for you my fans since day one," Bahati said via his Instagram feed.
He noted it was the first social media break he was taking in ten years.
