Radio Africa Group's Head of Content Paul Ilado has termed the statement by ODM party leader Raila Odinga as unfortunate, unjustified and uncalled for.

Raila had asked his supporters to boycott Safaricom, Kenya Commercial Bank and Radio Africa group, particularly, The Star Kenya.

However, Ilado said Radio Africa Group, particularly The Star, has been fair and objective in their coverage of political events.

"In the last election, The Star was the only media house that carried out objective opinion polls consistently that showed a tight race."

"We think that the call to boycott The Star is misinformed, and Azimio Leaders need to reconsider, especially because freedom of the media is guaranteed in the Constitution," Ilado said.

While addressing the media in Nairobi, Raila alleged that the mentioned brands have been facilitating the Kenya Kwanza government.

"These cooperates have become the enemies of people and are benefiting the blood and tears of Kenyans," he said, while part of the crowd clapped.

This is not the first time Raila is informing his supporters to boycott brands.

In 2017, Raila called for Safaricom boycott saying the telecommunications company ganged up to stifle democracy.

“That time is coming, but it has not yet come. We may be forced to do it in our struggle for democracy and progress,” Raila said.

He claimed that some big corporations, which he did not name, were part and parcel of subverting the growth of democracy in Kenya.

“We are considering beginning an economic boycott of products and corporations that are working against the interests of the people of Kenya,” Raila added.
