Ali Hassan Joho, also known as Sultan was born in 26th February 1976. He served two terms as the Governor of Mombasa County.
He actively joined elective politics in 2007 when he won the Kisauni parliamentary seat this was after joining the Liberal Democratic Party in 2006 as the party’s chairman in the constituency.
On 4 March 2013, during the general election, Joho was elected as the first governor of Mombasa County. In the 2017 General Elections held on 8 August, Joho retained his seat on an ODM ticket.
Under Joho’s leadership, Mombasa County was allocated funds to mitigate the effects of Covid-19. He also distributed water for free using truck bowers and rolled out a free Covid-19 mass testing exercise.
