Several Kenyans are said to be stranded on major highways as they rush to the village for Christmas celebrations.

Many of those who are stuck in traffic took to social media to share their frustrations while warning those who are yet to leave the City to look for alternative roads.

Reports indicate that traffic on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway started building up yesterday and until now things have not changed.

Media personality Francis Lichivya used his Twitter to advise those travelling to Western Kenya to use the Narok-Njoro road and avoid the Nairobi-Naivasha highway.

“Are you heading to Western Kenya...avoid the jam along Nairobi Naivasha road and go through Narok Njoro road. Your stopover for breakfast or lunch will do you good as you enjoy traffic-free roads,” Luchivya said.

Those using the Nairobi- Nakuru highway have had it rough for the last few days with the traffic building up day and night.

The road is also known for recurring road accidents, especially at Salgaa which is a major blind spot.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen recently announced that the death toll on Kenyan roads has increased since independence day.

The major traffic on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway forced Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to issue a traffic advisory

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists plying or planning to use the Nairobi - Nakuru (A8) Highway of a traffic buildup between Gilgil town and the rail over road bridge as people travel for the festive season," KeNHA said.
