Four years after fast-rising rap sensation XXX Tentacion lost his life to gun violence his murder trial is finally set to begin in court.
The murder trial of the late 20-year-old who was shot near a motorcycle dealership in Florida is scheduled to begin on January 9th, 2023 and it already has some crazy twists to it.
Defence attorneys for one of the four men charged, with the 2018 murder have presented a list of potential witnesses that include Drake, 6ix9ine, Joe Budden, the Migos, and a couple more rappers.
According to a Miami Herald report the defence for the suspected gunman, Dedrick Devonshay Williams, has listed the above-named rappers and more as potential witnesses in the murder trial.
Most of the individuals listed as potential witnesses had beef with X at one point or another.
According to the publication, the reason why Drake appeared on the witness list was because of his social media feud with the late rapper before his death.
In 2017, X had beef with Drake over what he believed was the Canadian rapper biting his flow from his breakout track "Look at Me!" on the song his song"KMT."
A year later, a cryptic post surfaced months before X's death that read: “If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi,” which is Drake’s Instagram handle.
But XXXTentacion later came out to reveal that his Instagram account had been hacked.
However, there’s no evidence available publicly that even suggests there’s any truth to these rumours that the defendant's attorney is trying to launch meaning that the named witness doesn't necessarily have to take the stand.
But at the same time if the judge approves, then the potential witnesses would have to divulge information on XXXTENTACION’s potential rap feuds
Following this, their prosecutors and the attorneys could ask the judge to keep them out of the case since there isn’t evidence linking them to the crime.
X was shot several times and the attackers also stole his Louis Vuitton bag which contained 50,000$ in cash (roughly Ksh. 6.2 million) before making a quick getaway in an SUV.
The motive behind the murder is still under investigation.
Four suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree murder among other charges. In August this year, one of the suspects pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for testimonies against the other 3 in their upcoming trial.
