Seems like Mike Sonko is fishing for a new job after his political career took a nose dive, following the Kenya Airways pilots going on strike, Mr.Mbuvi is ready to step up and help the economy.

"KQ management team, if the pilots continue with their strike I don't mind kupiga masquad nipate kakitu (I fly a few routes so that I can earn a few cents)," started off the former Nairobi County governor.

He went on to tease that he had experience with flying air crafts so they shouldn't fear.

"I have very good experience, I can fly any of your airlines to any destination worldwide," wrote the father of three.

He didn't make it known whether he had a license or not but he sure did make it known that he can fly a plane.

Sonko jokingly added that if they were game then he would be willing to start his new job in the morning and they could start with something simple like a in country flight like Nairobi to Mombasa.

"Hebu nijaribu asubuhi na Nairobi-Mombasa or Nairobi-Kisumu," the last part of Sonko's job appeal to KQ read.

About two weeks ago Kenya airways pilots issued a strike notice, the pilots complained about bullying and poor leadership in a letter they delivered to Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka.

"In this regard and pursuant to Section 76 of the Labour Relations Act 2007, we hereby notify you of our members' intention to strike in 14 days from the date of this letter," the letter reads.

It was signed by KALPA general secretary and CEO Muriithi Nyagah.

The pilots' union said it has raised the issues on several occasions but they have remained unresolved.

Kenya Airways seemed to have believed the pilots were bluffing up until around 4 days ago when they went on strike.

On Friday, KQ gave the pilots 24 hours starting 11.30 am to return to work or they would lose their jobs.

Addressing the press on Saturday morning, KQ CEO Allan Kilavuka said at least 10,000 passengers have been affected as 400 Kenya Airways pilots went on strike paralysing operations of Kenya's national flag carrier.

He said the executive council members of the pilot’s association have called in sick to protect themselves while their members are on strike.

At the same time, pilots have insisted that the strike is on, apologising to passengers.

In a statement, Kalpa says the onus to end the stalemate rests with KQ management.

"Kalpa is willing to listen to proposals in genuine negotiations," the lobby's secretary general Muriithi Nyagah says in a statement released Saturday.

The airline is likely to lose close to Sh300 million every day if the strike persists.
