As funeral and burial arrangements got underway, Kiplenge's body was transported to Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru.

The deceased lawyer's family and friends also set up a WhatsApp group to help with the preparations for the lawyer's funeral.

The lawyer was mourned by  President William Ruto who sent a message of condolence to the family, friends and relatives of the advocate.

Kiplenge passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022.

In his message, Ruto said Kenya had lost a forthright lawyer, a great legal mind and a champion of the rights of minority communities.

"The late Kiplenge was a patriotic Kenyan who inspired many and worked hard to make Kenya a better nation," Ruto said.

In an interview with a local media house, the family revealed that the lawyer passed away after a short illness.

"He got sick two weeks ago and unfortunately passed away on Friday, October 7," his wife, Jedida Wairimu said.

Kiplenge was the defendant's advocate in a land-grabbing case against former President Daniel Arap Moi.

In 2019, the lawyer led the family to appeal a High Court decision requiring Moi to pay Sh1 billion compensation to an Eldoret family for an alleged grabbing of their land.

In the 1990s, Kiplenge also played a significant part in the campaign for the rights of the Ogiek, a marginalized tribe in Kenya.

He is the founder of the Nakuru County-based firm Kiplenge & Kurgat Advocates.
