The issue of being added to WhatsApp groups to raise funds for a couple ready to marry, has generated quite a reaction.

A woman has bitterly complained about receiving such a request. Taking to Twitter, user Mercy Murugi told of the difficult position such a demand has placed on her.

@mercymurugi·"Someone wants to add me to a Whatsapp group for his dowry fundraiser. We are not friends, just acquaintance."

Mercy sought the advice of KOT on how she should handle rejecting the offer.

"How do you tell someone, nicely, please get married when you can afford it? Or do I just leave him on blueticks?"

Most people appeared to relate to her dilemma, and promptly advised her. Boniface Mwangi dug in with a tough response basically saying she should out right say no.

@bonifacemwangi"Contribute and ask to be part of the marriage. Be a shareholder, and you will be entitled to spousal benefits. Your Sushi man is right there, open thy eyes."

Mercy was amused and replied to @bonifacemwang saying, "Hahaha. What would I do without your wisdom though?!"

He also cheekily added, "Ukule Sushi, akule Pushi."

Former Rugby player Dennis Ombachi was just as tickled and advised Mercy @ombachi13"You could have just told me in person but clout is a drug."

Below are more thoughts from KOT about her problem.

@ahb_dee·3Try being ambigous. It works. Just ask for details including the time, place, paybill, then ask them to remind you closer to the date. "Lets keep talking” Of course you are looking for a chance to blame them in future for not reminding you. Hii Nairobi ni kujipanga my Fren.

@KakushaVenecia·Hey . Thank you for the invite . I however am not in a position to contribute now or in the near future as I am attending to other personal urgent issues. I wish you well in this season.

@PatMbela·Let's start by saying that is just weird! Ok so just say that you wish him well as he gets married but you are not able to help at the moment, due to financial constraints. So he shouldn't add you. That way when you meet again it is not awkward

Maina Kageni has been very vocal about this, saying he would never contribute to a persons wedding. He spoke about this on air Classic 105, where he brushed off such shenanigans.
