RIP: Oprah Winfrey mourning the death of her dad

• Oprah announced the death of her dad in a statement on her social media account on Saturday.

Oprah Winfrey's dad, Vernon Winfrey, is died.

Vernon Winfrey died on Friday after battling cancer at the age of 89 years.

Oprah announced the death of her dad in a statement on her social media account on Saturday.

The 68-year-old TV star posted an emotional tribute video to her father Vernon Winfrey on Instagram recounting their last moments.

"Vernon Winfrey 1933-2022.

Less than a week ago we honored my father in his own backyard. My friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps saluted him with song.

He FELT the love and reveled in it until he could no longer speak.

Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside, I had the sacred honor of witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath.

We could feel Peace enter the room at his passing.That Peace still abides. All is well. Thank you for your prayers and good thought."

On July 4, Vernon was surprised with a "Vernon Winfrey Appreciation Celebration" and backyard barbecue, where he was surrounded by friends and loved ones.

The celebration was a way to give her father his "'flowers while he's still well enough to smell them," Oprah said in an earlier post.

Vernon was a well known barber in his community and served on the Metro Nashville Council for 16 years.

Her friends have sent in condolence messages;
