Milele FM Radio Presenter Alex Mwakideu has shared memories of the first day he flew out of the country, and almost missing a flight at JKIA.

In an interview with Oga Obinna, Mwakideu said he got an internship opportunity at Deutsche Welle and was meant to travel to Germany for 6 months of training.

Then, Alex Mwakideu was working at Baraka FM and was earning a salary of Ksh 35,000.

"I was at JKIA at 2 PM and my flight was to take off at 00:45 midnight. I had a lot of money and decided to spend it at a bar. I called my friend who came with other people, we drank at the bars inside JKIA," Mwakideu shared.

The radio presenter added that he did not realize time was moving until 30 minutes before the scheduled flight take off.

"The flight was about to leave and it was the last one. My name had been called several times...I knew I had a one-in-a-million opportunity that I had been given by my station manager. And here I am being stupid at the airport."

Mwakideu woke up from his stupor and ran towards the departure area, only to find that offices were closed.

He tried to talk to a guard to allow him in but he could not.

Shortly, Mwakideu spotted a lady coming from the KLM offices and approached her for help.

After explaining his case, the lady approached her manager to see if Mwakideu can be salvaged.

"I told him I could not go back because it could mess up his life and kill my whole career. It will kill me completely."

Luckily, the manager listened to him but asked him for some money to be allowed in.

After giving out 2,000 the presenter was allowed to board the flight that was to take off in 5 minutes.

"Everyone was looking at me, wondering who I am and how stupid I am. I just sat down and the flight took off, I prayed and thanked God," he said.
