Gospel singer, Betty Bayo, says her childhood life was not a smooth one. Speaking to Kameme FM, the mother of two said her parents were not together and this made it hard for her to even get education.

Born in Banana, Kiambaa County, Betty said her mum brought them up as a single mother. She said she started paying her school fees when she was in class six.

"We moved like 15 places due to various challenges in our family. My mum used to work on people's farms. My dad chased us from his parent's home. He was so dramatic. I started paying my school fees in class six. I used to work in people's farm as well. My mum would get her money to buy food as we pay school fees."

Betty further added;

"After I joined High School, I was forced to drop out of school due to school fees challenges. I became a house girl to get school fees. Since then, I learnt that it is always good to keep your children out of your drama. They are very innocent and they do not know where you two met."

Among hustles Betty Bayo did was working in a salon and selling potatoes.

"I never found myself in school for a whole year apart from four when a friend paid my school fees. She was in high school for six years. I almost gave up while in form 3. I did not concentrate in school and that is why my grammar is not good. My mind was always thinking about how I would make money after class."

Betty said she almost gave up until a good Samaritan showed up.

"I burnt my book in form three and started working as a maid for a heaven-sent family who decided to take me back to school. I got a good grade in Form four and they said they would take me to Makerere University."

Unfortunately, her employer passed on and she missed the opportunity. She came to Nairobi and started hawking credit cards.
