This week, singer Bahati disclosed that the first ambassadorial deal he got earned him over a million shillings.

His hefty payday happened just a few months after he joined the music industry. Bahati was speaking during the Boomplay Artist Forum on Wednesday.

He said, by then, he had just released his hit song 'Mama' in 2013.

"My first ever big deal was in 2013, Facebook through Safaricom approached me to be their ambassador. They paid me, Ksh 1.8 million, I was only eight months old in the industry."

Asked what they considered, Bahati said they were looking for the best.

"At that time, they were looking for the best and I think I have been the best in the game. They were looking for someone with genuine Facebook numbers and that is how I started taking social media seriously."

Asked about how he handles trolls, Bahati said he appreciates all his followers.

"I don't look at the love on social media, but the interaction. Whether good or bad, they are my followers and that is what is important for me."
