"There is no money in gospel!" Daddy Owen's brother Slejj says

Musician Slejj was a guest at his elder brother Daddy Owen's album launch this past week. The gospel musician spoke to Mpasho.co.ke during the event.

He was ecstatic about the release of his brother's sixth album saying;

"Congratulations to him. Doing an album si rahisi! This is a big milestone for him. I am really happy as I was also involved in one of the songs called 'Sina Haya'. It is also great for the gospel industry considering the way secular musicians have been really doing well of late and the gospel scene has been lacking."

Apart from collaborating with his brother on the album, in what other ways had he supported him in?

"I helped him arrange the album and also organise this event, we were here for most of the night putting the finishing touches."

What has Slejj been doing with himself? "I have been laying low. I have been doing other things like studying animation but now I am doing an album. I am on my sixth song, by December or January, we might be doing my own album launch."

What did he have to say about the claim that Kenyan Gospel is dead? "I can't say it is dead. Gospel cannot die. If you read the word it can't die but with what we see with our eyes it doesn't look so good. There is so much disunity in the industry but right I like the direction the industry is going as it separates the wheat from the chaff. We are at a new phase in the gospel music industry."

Finishing by stating that anyone doing gospel music at the moment isn't there for the money but by sheer passion;

"Right now if you are doing gospel, you aren't doing it for money. There is no money here. That's where the industry is at the moment."
