Kenyan actress Mumbi Maina has bagged a major role in one of the most loved movie sequels, The Matrix.
Mumbi announced she will be in the movie's latest installation, 'The Choice Is Yours", via social media, excusing herself to go and scream after sharing the news. "Yes. This. Happened. Click the link in my bio. I’ll be back when I’m done…screaming!!!!" Mumbi wrote on Instagram.
The first Matrix movie was released in 1999. It is a science fiction action film written and directed by the Wachowskis.
Mumbi kept the news on the down-low, up until a day to the release of the trailer, which will be on September 9, 2021. Mumbi got international acclaim for her role in the Netflix show Sense8.
She also starred in Mali in 2011 for which she won a Kalasha award; Kati Kati in 2016 and Nollywood thriller La Femme Anjola in 2021.
Mumbi also got trained by four-time Emmy Award winner Alfre Woodard. She made her debut in the entertainment world in 2008 when she starred in the film Unseen, Unsung, Unforgotten as Riziki.
Her big achievement was celebrated on social media with her friends and fans showering her with congratulatory messages.
Nigerian actress Rita Dominic wrote, "Congrats hun." Fellow actress Lizz Njagah wrote, "Congratulations Mumbi, yaaaaaaaaay!!"
Kate Actress expressed her joy stating that she was glad the news was finally public as she was keeping it a secret.
“I can finally breathe, I can keep secrets. CONGRATULATIONS hun," Kate wrote. Mumbi is among the many Kenyans who are doing great things away from home and putting Kenya on the map.
She has joined the likes of Lupita Nyong’o, Eddie Gathegi among others who have landed major roles in international movies. Congratulations are in order for Mumbi.
