Months ago, musician Reuben Kigame shocked Kenyans after warning politicians against attending his funeral.

The tweet left mouths wide open, with some fearing that he was predicting his own death.

Months later, Reuben Kigame spoke to Mpasho, holding the same statement.

"I haven't changed my mind. Because you only come to mock me, my family and my friends and lie to the whole republic that you are good people, you are evil, monsters in human skin," he said.

But what prompted the celebrated gospel musician to go on a rant?

At the time, Reuben had lost a close friend who was also a musician.

The man, he said, lived a miserable life despite having a big music career.

"His wife had died, he had no food, he could not afford a coffin for his wife after singing from the early 60's. He himself died in April, he had no money for his coffin. This is someone who should have earned millions," he explained.

Reuben detailed that musicians in Kenya are not getting their rightful royalties because of bad governance and middlemen in the music industry.

"If a musician has a payment worth 10 shillings, then he gets 1.50, where does 8.50 go? Musicians are dying poor. Everyone thinks Kigame is a millionaire, i have not made over 200,000 from music copyright in 11 years, from 29 albums."

The singer will be contesting for the 2022 presidential position, and hop[es to change the art industry in Kenya.
