Police are working diligently to establish the identity of the man suspected to be the main perpetrator in the brutal murder of Rita Mueni at an apartment in the Roysambu area of Nairobi.

CCTV footage obtained by the police revealed the face of the suspect who orchestrated the murder, although he deliberately obstructed part of his face to hinder the investigations.

In addition to reviewing the footage, law enforcement may employ advanced facial mapping technology to identify the suspect.

They might also utilize forensic technology to analyze his gait, matching it with potential suspects, and collect DNA samples for analysis.

In the footage, the suspect, dressed in a black trouser, a black jumper, a blue T-shirt, black goggles, and a white cape, hastily entered a mini supermarket.

He went there to collect the keys to access the room where the murder occurred.

The suspect entered the shop around 4:30 pm on Saturday, January 13, engrossed in a phone call. He quickly handed the phone to the shop attendant, who briefly spoke with the caller before returning the phone to the suspect.

According to the shop attendant, the suspect was conversing with the owner of the adjacent 'Airbnb', who instructed him to pick up the keys.

After obtaining the keys, the suspect opted for cash payments, citing challenges with mobile money transactions.

A closer examination of the footage revealed that he carried a bag, suspected to conceal the weapon used in the murder. The suspect was supposed to return the keys on Sunday morning, but he vanished thereafter.

It is believed that he accessed the room alone initially but was later joined by the woman in the early hours of the night, although they were not seen together.

A neighbour, witnessed the woman entering the room at 4 am on that fateful day and stated that she never left the premises.

Detectives, tracking the suspect's mobile phone, disclosed that he traveled from Ruaka to Roysambu to commit the murder.

However, it remains unclear whether he drove to the premises or was dropped off by a taxi.

Sleuths are actively working to trace the woman's phone, which the suspect took when fleeing the scene.
