Police in Khwisero, Kakamega county, are investigating an incident where a one-and-a-half-year-old baby was murdered and its body dumped on top of a neighbour’s toilet.
The family says the child went missing on Friday.
“I had left for the farm on Friday morning and when I came back my child was nowhere to be seen,” the mother said.
“I went ahead and asked my sister-in-law if she had seen it but she denied it.”
The mother looked for her child from Friday to Saturday but the search bore no fruit.
On Sunday, its body was found on top of the neighbour's toilet.
“On Sunday morning an in-law of mine informed me that the child had been found,” she said.
The toddler had been defiled and beaten.
“I woke up in the morning and headed to the toilet. The toilet seemed to have more flies than usual but I just assumed and went in,” the neighbour who discovered the body said.
After the neighbour was done responding to the call of nature, she decided to check what could have attracted the flies.
It was then that she discovered the remains of the child and alerted the mother.
