Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of a suspect in the murder of a man in the Olorika area of Kajiado South on Sunday.

According to Kajiado South Sub County Commander Kiprop Ruto, Gabriel Njoka was killed in a maize plantation at 10 pm while allegedly stealing maize.

“It is true, I have a suspect in this case that happened Sunday. The suspect is in police custody,” said Ruto.

Ruto explained that police investigations have revealed that the suspect was inside his maize farm on Sunday night to guard it against rampant stealing of maize.

“While on the farm, the suspect heard someone breaking the maize stocks. He was armed with a spear which he used to strike the suspect,” said Ruto on Wednesday morning.

The police commander said the spear was lodged in the thigh of the suspected thief and after he was arrested, they pulled off the weapon. The suspect is said to have bled to death.

“Had they left the spear untouched until the suspect reached the hospital, his life could have been saved,” said Ruto.

The body was taken to Loitokitok sub-county hospital mortuary.
