The body of Yusuf Elmi Noor aged 25 years was found in a bush moments after he had been hired by two men to take them to Elwak.
His motorcycle was missing at that time, police said.
Police suspect the attackers were targeting the motorcycle and that he was killed after he resisted.
The body was taken to a local mortuary for an autopsy before it was handed over to the family for burial after the Sunday afternoon incident.
A hunt on the attackers is ongoing, police said.
