Handcuffed robbery suspect escapes from Murang'a hospital

Police say they are investigating the incident even as they hunt for the suspect.

Police and prison authorities are investigating an incident in which a robbery with violence suspect escaped from a hospital where he was under guard in Muranga County.

Isaac Mwangi, a remand prisoner who was facing robbery with violence charges, was admitted to Muranga Level Five Hospital for a surgical procedure when escaped on Monday evening.

According to police and prison officials, Mwangi was in handcuffs while in the hospital. The handcuffs were, however, found at the suspect’s hospital bed.

It is not clear how he managed to escape the scene where he was under the guard of a prison warder.

After the guard on duty realized the suspect had escaped, he raised an alarm by even shooting into the air but no arrest was made.

Police say they are investigating the incident even as they hunt for the suspect.

Elsewhere, the body of a 17-year-old boy was found in a house after a suspected suicide in Kenol area, Muranga.

Police said the body of Augustine Muiru Muthoni was found dangling from the roof of their house with a sisal rope around his neck.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known but officials are investigating it. The body was moved to a local mortuary.

And at Ngoigwa area, the body of a man aged about 35 was found on the roadside on Mangu Road.

Police said the body had visible injuries before it was moved to the mortuary for autopsy and identification.
