Nakuru-based butchery is on the spotlight for selling rotten meat to its customers.

Over the weekend, a photo of meat lying on the floor of the butchery went viral on social media.

In the photo, the meat that had not been stored appropriately also appeared to be rotten. It had greenish patches, just like the way rotten meat changes its colour.

However, the butchery was still selling the meat to unaware customers. This lead to a crackdown by government officials,  who arrested the owner.

"We got some intelligence that this butchery has been selling rotten meat. We have found the meat and the owners will be prosecuted. To Nakuru residents, don't just buy or meat without looking at the place. The food can be poisonous and kill you. You see a butchery full of flies and still buy meat there," Afrahah Assistant Chief Timothy told residents.

This is not the first time Nakuru is on the spotlight over sale of meat that is  not fit for human consumption.

In 2018, a man was arrested for selling Samosas made from cat meat.

Then, the man confessed that he had been selling the doomed 'tasty Samosas' for 8 years.

He said that he had made SH 500,000 from the business.
