Military investigate soldier's death in Embakasi

Police and military are investigating an incident in which a 45-year-old soldier was found dead in his house after an apparent suicide in Embakasi, Nairobi.

Colleagues of the deceased identified as David Kimaru said he was not picking up his calls and when they went to check on him they found his body hanging on a rope in his house.

The body was moved to the mortuary as investigations into the incident go on.

At Kibarage slums in Muthaiga area, a 32-year-old woman died by suicide in her parents’ house.

Motive of both incidents yet to be known.

Meanwhile:

Three employees of a road construction company were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an explosive planted on the road in Banisa, Mandera County.

Police said the Improvised Explosive Devise had been planted on the road by suspected al-Shabaab militants and timed to hit a security vehicle that was using the Banisa-Mandera Road when the incident happened.

The workers were headed to a construction site when their land cruiser ran over the explosive devise.

They were taken to a local hospital and admitted to a stable condition.

The incident came two days after five construction workers were killed at a site in Bodhei, Lamu in an attack staged by al-Shabaab militants. Three others were injured in the attack on the workers constructing a Lapset road.

In Other News:

Three people were last evening killed and three others injured in a road accident on the Limuru-Ndenderu-Ruaka Road in Kiambu County.

The accident involved a lorry whose driver lost its control and rammed onto pedestrians before crashing into a road edge.

Police said the three who died included a bodaboda rider, a hawker and a pedestrian standing on the roadside.

Locals want road bumps to be erected at the site and the road is marked. The injured are in stable condition at a local hospital.
