Lamu senator, Anwar Loitiptip is expected in court today to face charges of causing bodily harm to a woman and misusing his gun.
This was after he surrendered to the police last evening over an alleged shooting incident in Nanyuki that left a woman nursing gun shot wounds.
The senator spent the night in custody in Nanyuki ahead of his arraignment today.
His gun was confiscated when he surrendered and would undergo forensic analysis as part of the probe.
Anwar is said to have told police he was attacked at a joint prompting the shooting. He then vanished after injuring 32-year-old Joy Makena on Saturday night.
She was rushed to hospital in Nanyuki with gunshot injuries on her right foot, above the ankle and was in stable condition. Makena told police she was shot by Anuar of Jubilee party.
She said a quarrel broke out between her and the first time senator before he shot her at close range.
He then fled the scene leaving behind his bodyguard and other supporters to attend to her.
Anwar took himself to a hospital where he said he was attended to before he surrendered after he said he was also injured.
A video of him loading his magazine with bullets them assembling it back has gone viral.
