Two people died on Tuesday night while another one was injured after a motorcycle they were riding hit a truck carrying sand at Nyamaiya area popularly known as corner 'S' black spot along Nyamira-Miruka road.

The accident happened when the speeding bodaboda rider carrying two passengers, swerved from his lane and rammed into the stationary lorry that was stuck in the road because of a mechanical fault.

Police say the victims of the 8.30pm crash, who are sisters, were returning home after Christmas shopping in Nyamira town.

One of them died on the spot while the other sister died in Nyamira County Referral Hospital where she was rushed for treatment.

The motorcycle rider is still recovering at the same facility after he sustained rib and head injuries.

Nyamira South Police Commander Lillies Wachira confirmed the incident and urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution while using roads during this festive season.
