More and more women are bleaching their skin for one reason or the other. Truth is some end up looking more 'ugly' than they were before the bleaching.

Below are some of the reasons they gave for bleaching their skin.

  1. Nyasuguta

Former Vitimbi actress Nyasuguta left many shocked when photos of her looking yellow yellow emerged.

Unlike Vera, her bleaching looks like it was done in River road by crooks.

Speaking about why she bleached, Nyasuguta said

“I was involved in an accident in 2013. I got dented on the face. The dent was lighter than other parts of my face, consequently making me look like a person who has two facial complexions in one.”

Hers it so seems, was just a move to repair her damaged face after the accident in 2013. Nyasuguta also added that, in fact it was her mum who encouraged her.

“I saw it wise to bleach so that my face gets an even skin tone. Actually it is my mum who encouraged me.

Imagine a celebrity walking in the streets of Nairobi with dents all over her face, what will people think of her.” She said.

2. Wema Sepetu

Wema who is a former Miss Tanzania, bleached for personal reasons. She also went on a crazy weight loss program that saw people question whether she was HIV+.

3. Betty Bayo

Betty recently revealed that the reason why she bleached was because the man she was in love with at the time asked her to.

"I once fell in love with a young man I was sure he will marry me.

I loved and adored him, he claimed he loved me too and he would marry me if only I was light-skinned (rangi ya thau) I decided to remove my legs from the sack, Mimi huyoo River Road.

I bleached my skin to make him happy. The next thing he told me he will marry me if only I was a bit taller. Weee my friend nlikua natembea na high heels throughout karibu niende nazo kwa choo tu."

4. Vera Sidika

Vera bleached because at the time she wanted to further her career as a socialite to international standards.

Speaking in a past interview with the trend, Vera said

"Looking good is my business," she said matter-of-factly. "My body is my business, nobody else's but mine."

Adding she'd had the skin lightening done in the UK and suggested it cost somewhere in the region of 15 million Kenyan shillings.

5. Bridget Achieng

Bridget, a mother of one, bleached because she was being discriminated upon because of her dark skin.

Speaking in a past interview, Bridget had shared how her job was given to someone who was lighter than her.

HONESTLY I DID NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY COLOUR, THE MEDIA AND PEOPLE IN GENERAL LOVE FAVORING LIGHT SKIN GIRLS.

I HAD WON AN INTERVIEW BUT THEY TURNED ME DOWN BECAUSE I WAS DARK.

RIGHT NOW IS WHEN PEOPLE ARE BEING TOLD TO LOVE THEIR COLOUR.’
