A 40-year-old woman in Tebesonik village within Bureti sub-county, Kericho is on the run after she allegedly aborted her eight-month-old foetus that was discovered hidden inside an old car tyre within her home.

The area chief Benard Kipkorir said the suspect, a mother of six is said to have committed the heinous act and covered the male foetus with pieces of old sacks which she put out of sight inside an old used car tyre some 100 metres away from her house before fleeing.

Kipkorir added that members of the public reported the matter and on arrival at the scene discovered the decomposing foetus with one of its legs missing.

“The left leg of the decomposing foetus was missing an indicator that dogs devoured it,” said the chief.

He added that the single mother, who is a casual tea picker left her children all alone at her home after she terminated her pregnancy.

“The eldest child is 16 years and her youngest is only four years,” added the area chief.

Police arrived at the scene and moved the foetus to Kapkatet sub-county hospital for autopsy and disposal.

Confirming the incident, Bureti sub-county police commander Felician Nafula said they have launched investigations into the incident, adding that the suspect identified as Beatrice Cherono is yet to return to her home after committing the crime.

A similar occurrence was reported in the same village last year in June after the body of a decomposing nine month old male foetus was found floating in river Kapkawa that cuts across the settlement.
