Boni Khalwale details the last moments of his wife, Adelaide, before she died

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is mourning the loss of his first wife, Adelaide of 39 years.

Boni claims that she was cancer-free and that she did not succumb to the killer disease but that she died of pulmonary hypertension.

Speaking during to the media, Boni explained,

'For avoidance of doubt I wish to announce to members of my extended family and my friends that Adelaide is dead.

Adding, "Adelaide was my wife of 39 years from 2003 w when she was first diagnosed with cancer. As a family, we refused to be intimated by the possibility of death."

She has died not from cancer,she had cervix cancer in 2003 but we went through chemotherapy and she got better.'

Khalwale added that they had overcome so many battles with cancer and in the end, it's not what killed his wife.

This year she developed cancer of the blood, also known as  multiple myeloma we started chemotherapy and she completed the course.

This week we went to the Cancer Centre, we did the profiles of the blood and of the bone marrow and confirmed the cancer had been cured.

Two days ago, she developed pulmonary hypertension, for the two days she started taking the medication then she just stopped breathing.

Meanwhile, tributes for Adelaide are pouring in. Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said he learnt with deep sorrow and sadness the passing on of mama Adelaide.

"The late Adelaide was a loving and dependable wife and mother to her family and a dedicated public servant at Masinde Muliro University where she was a member of staff," he said.

"On behalf of my family and the entire Kakamega County, I send my heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the late Adelaide and pray to God to give them the strength to bear her tragic loss."

Bungoma Senator and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula sent his condolences through his Twitter handle.

"My heartfelt condolences to my brother Bonny Khalwale and his family following the loss of his first wife. May the good Lord rest her soul in eternal peace. Amen!" he said.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala said, "I have learnt with the deepest sorrow the passing on of Mama Adelaide Khalwale, wife of former Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale. Accept my heartfelt condolences, that of my family and that of the great people of Kakamega County. Pole sana ndugu."
