The world's first global cannabis brand has been launched courtesy of the family of the late Jamaican reggae artist, Bob Marley.

‘Marley Natural’ as the brand is called, will be used to sell cannabis-infused lotions, creams and various accessories.

33 years after his death, the reggae icon continues to influence masses worldwide and has remained a brand name in the Rastafarian world. He is also credited with helping start the movement to end cannabis prohibition 50 years ago.

The brand is being developed in partnership with a Washington State-based company Privateer Holdings.  It is intended to be sold in the US and possibly worldwide from next year.

Bob Marley's daughter, Cedella Marley, said her father would welcome the move.

"My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb," she said.

Bob Marley died of cancer in May 1981. He embraced cannabis as a key part of his Rastafarian faith and supported its legalization.

Cannabis use for recreational purposes is legal in the US states of Colorado and Washington.

Its use and possession in Kenya however remain prohibited.
