Saumu Mbuvi is one of the few women who love their mothers-in-law. Yaani, one in a million.
The Nairobi county governor’s daughter is dating Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip and loves his mother.
Anwar’s mother Mohamed Heri was the special guest on Citizen TV’s Mwanamke Bomba (Strength of a woman) segment on Tuesday. Heri, ambulance driver (operator) talked about her job.
The senator’s mother, who has been an ambulance driver for more than 30 years said,
I started working in Lamu in 1984 and later was posted to Mombasa. I was then transferred to Laikipia, where I worked at the Laikipia general hospital and came back to Lamu. I will still do this job (driving an ambulance) until I retire.
She said her career was inspired by the challenges she saw sick people go through.
I’ve worked at this station (her current workplace) for ten years alone as a driver until recently when they brought in another driver.
Heri said the job has challenges just like any other but she’s a strong woman.
I love my job so much.
Most members of politicians families live large and enjoy the finer things in life but for Heri things are different.
Speaking about her senator son, Anwar, she said,
We as a community elected him to work for us and as a driver, I also have to help the community. Anwar helps me but I cannot stop doing my work. He has begged me to stop working but I can’t. Amesomeshwa na hii ambulance.
Saumu took to social media to praise her mother-in-law describing her as inspiration.
I love how you inspire us and challenge us all. You’re an amazing woman.
Her story has won the hearts of many and reactions include;
