THE son of former Westands MP Fred Gumo was charged in a Kibera court with causing the death of a senior state lawyer by reckless driving.

Magero Gumo was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving causing injuries to five people.

The prosecution said that on April 3, Magero drove his car in a dangerous manner on Waiyaki Way and lost control of it, hitting lawyer Victor Inyanje’s car.

He also hit a matatu and injured four people.

Through his lawyer, Magero asked chief magistrate Judith Wanjala to admit him to reasonable bail as he is not well as a result of that accident, and has been admitted at the Nairobi Hospital.

Wanjala ordered Magero to deposit a Sh200,000 bail, and to name a contact person who will be examined by the trial court.

The case will be heard on August 5.
