Snoring is a problem many people struggle with. Here are some of the reasons that have led to consistent snoring. It is important to see a doctor afterwards.

1. You’re Enjoying An Evening Nightcap

Having a glass of wine at the end of the day may take the edge off, but it isn’t necessarily doing your sleeping habits any favours.

Alcohol relaxes your airway muscles, which can lead to excessive snoring ― even if you’re not a regular snorer.

2. You Have A Nasal Obstruction

Having something blocking off your nasal passageway can definitely contribute to snoring.

There should be a continuous flow of air from your nose to your lungs and back.

3. Old Age

As people get older, their sleep habits change.

Some may find it takes longer to fall asleep and that the rest isn’t as restorative as it once was.

Aging also impacts snoring, in part because the throat muscles and tongue tend to relax more during sleep with age, causing a vibration on the inhale which leads to snoring.

4. You’re A Back Sleeper

Sleeping on your back may make you much more likely to snore.

Lying on your back makes the base of your tongue and soft palate collapse to the back wall of your throat, causing a vibrating sound during sleep.

5. It May Be Weight Related

Excess body weight can lead to poor muscle tone and an increased amount of tissue around the throat and neck.

Both of these can catalyze a snoring condition.

6. Your Thyroid may have a problem

The thyroid is a gland the sits on the front part of your neck.

If the thyroid which is at one point of the trachea stops the circulation of air, you are more likely to snore.
