Nairobi has been a centerstage of floods for the past few weeks and it has gotten everyone going home early everyday to avoid being caught in the rains. However, did you know that it rains spiders in Australia?

This story is not for the weak; the arachnophobes. As much as it seems scary, it is actually true. In the southern tablelands of New South Wales in country, there has been a massive downpour of baby spiders.

The scientifically credible explanation is this: the spiders make 'balloons' with their silk threads with which they use to fly in the wind. This phenomenon is common in this part of the world. The spiders often migrate.

"Ballooning is a not-uncommon behavior of many spiders. They climb some high area and stick their butts up in the air and release silk. Then they just take off. This is going on all around us all the time. We just don't notice it," a retired arachnologist arachnologist at the University of California, Riverside told Live Science.
