John Paul Mwirigi is the newly elected Igembe South MP.

The  23-year-old Bachelor of Education student made history as the youngest ever MP to be elected to parliament.

Born and raised poor, the independent candidate who is an orphan, used to campaign on foot,  and sometimes used Boda Boda's. He went on a door to door campaign and reminded voters not to forget him.

He had not printed even a single poster nor given a penny in hand outs, so he did not even need much money to oil his campaign.

Unlike many candidates who refuse to help the community until they are voted in, Mwirigi could not decline attending fundraisers, he would attend and then boldly tell organizers he had no cash to give.

“WHEN YOU REACH IN THE BALLOT REMEMBER MY GREY SWEATER. AM THE ONE WITH THE GREY SWEATER SO TICK THERE,” HE TOLD VOTERS.

His grey sweater did magic for him and according to poll results on August 9, he was in the lead and from the look of things, the humble man was headed for victory.

"MY RIVALS WERE TAUNTING ME BECAUSE OF MY SWEATER WHICH I WAS BOUGHT BY RESIDENTS AND SAID WHY WOULD RESIDENTS ELECT SOMEONE WHO CANNOT EVEN AFFORD A SUIT BUT THIS WORKED TO MY ADVANTAGE. I TOLD RESIDENTS YES I COULD NOT AFFORD A SUIT BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE A JOB UNLIKE THE OTHERS AND THAT IS THE REASON THEY NEEDED TO VOTE FOR ME AND NOT TO VOTE FOR MY RIVALS AS THEY HAD JOBS AND WERE WELL OFF," MWIRIGI SAID

In his acceptance speech, John Paul Mwirigi said he will prioritize Agri business, nurture upcoming talents and promote entrepreneurship as well as improve infrastructure

He said as a young person he understands the problems of the youth and will help them out.

" I SAW THINGS WERE NOT WORKING AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE BUT I WANTED TO VIE SO THAT I MENTOR THE YOUTH, I DECIDED TO STAND IN THE GAP OF YOUNG PEOPLE THE PROBLEMS THE YOUNG PEOPLE GO THROUGH. I HAVE UNDERGONE THE SAME AND I DECIDED TO MENTOR THEM THROUGH LEADERSHIP AS I WILL SOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS,"  he SAID.

Mwirigi, who revealed that he developed interest in politics after he dreamt himself tabling a motion as MP when he was in Form Three at Kirindine Day secondary, has wowed Kenyans and he is the next politician to watch out for.

Well, John Paul has now transformed into a 'real' honourable MP and recently, he was dressed by Uhuru Kenyatta's designer Carol Pulei. Photos of the youngest Kenyan MP rocking suits for the first time in his life have surfaced and oh my, he looks dapper.
