A 13 year old girl in Elgeyo Marakwet County attempted to commit suicide after being forcefully married off to a 64-year-old.

The standard 7 pupil was beaten up and married off to a wealthy 64 year old village elder who had already paid the dowry to her parents.

She stayed with the man for two days before she consumed pesticide poison at the man’s home in Koloa Division, Baringo East sub-county.
