A businessman was yesterday charged with assaulting his ex-wife after she went to pick her child from him on Father’s Day.
Francis Ngugi was accused of beating and injuring Carolyne Wanjiku on June 18, at 2.30pm at Zimmerman estate. Prosecution reports indicate the suspect went to pick his child at the residence of Wanjiku, following an agreement with the Kasarani Children’s Department.
Ngugi, who has separated with Wanjiku, is allowed to see the child every weekend. Police said when Wanjiku went to pick the child, Ngugi came out of his house and asked why she was demanding to take the child on Father’s Day.

He told her to go away and come for the child late in the evening, but Wanjiku insisted on taking the child. Ngugi is said to have become furious and pulled her out of her car and rained blows on her. Wanjiku screamed for help and she was saved by Good Samaritans.
Ngugi denied the charges before chief magistrate Heston Nyaga. He was released on Sh10,000 bail. The case will be heard on October 11.
