The UN employee who hit media headlines for battering his lover has now been slapped with a 2-million-shilling bail in court. The wife batterer goes by the name Alphonse Kambu and comes from Papua New Guinea.

Ruth Gakii, his 26-year-old lover suffered serious injuries from his attack. Ealier on after the incident blew up on social media, Alphonse claimed to have special immunity but was later arrested for the act.

Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo of the Milimani Law Courts delivered the ruling earlier today. The defendant is a computer programmer at UNEP and Gakii is a business woman in Nairobi.
