Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto is back from South Africa where he had gone to seek treatment after being hit by a teargas canister that was fired by police officers.

The seasoned politician sustained an injury below his eye after the officers lobbed teargas canisters at a crowd on Sunday, November 6.

They were trying to calm down angry supporters of the governor and Sotik MP Joyce Laboso who had disrupted a football match.

The camps started pelting stones at each other and the police were forced to intervene by lobbying teargas and firing live bullets in the air to disperse the warring groups.

A canister hit Governor Ruto below his right eye in the melee and he sustained an injury as a result.

He was airlifted to Nairobi on Monday, November 7 for specialized treatment before being flown to South Africa after medical tests showed that he had multiple fractures.

After being away from the country for more than a week, Ruto jetted back into the country on Friday, November 18.

He landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi shortly after 5 pm where he was received by family members, supporters and members of the fourth estate.
