As Kenyans in the diaspora continue to register to vote, there are important things that they need to know about voting do's and don'ts.

The first important issue is for those who are transferring their voting stations. If you have moved out of Kenya and are now residing in the nations that are registering voters, this is useful information.

Those who voted in the last general election of 2013 while in Kenya, and are now living either in Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi or South Africa, the good news is that you do not need to register afresh as a voter.

That is only part of the news, because you need to present your national identity card to the registration center. The national identity card will enable officers at the station to help change your voting station from your previous to the present station in diaspora.

Another important thing to note is that double registration as a voter is an electoral offense. It could lead to penalties and even serving time in jail.

A person who has been declared as mentally unstable is also ineligible to be listed as a voter, according to the IEBC.

Another important thing to note is that a person who has ever been convicted of an electoral offense in the last five years is automatically ineligible to register as a voter.

So there you have it, Kenyans. Take this information, and use it wisely to vote come 8th August 2017 elections.
