Our boarding schools have been in the limelight for some time now following the fire incident that happened at Moi Girls high school just recently and St. Georges Girls high school.

One would ask themselves whether it is because of the subconscious fear of the final exams or just something our students are doing intentionally.

Away from burning of the schools, this one incident caught my attention. To think that a student would be stupid enough to carry a weapon to school yet when schools open, students are always frisked to make sure they do not get into the school compound with what the school terms as contraband.

A form four student at Orero Boys Secondary School in Homa Bay County was found in possession of a pistol.

He was flaunting the weapon to fellow students who promptly reported him to the school administration and tried to hide the gun somewhere in the school compound.

Police who went to the school, apprehended and questioned the student who said that he got the pistol from a relative.

Homa Bay OCPD Esau Ochorokodi confirmed that the gun had no bullets and that it is not used in Kenya.

The student is to be arraigned in court in the course of the day as police continue with their investigations to know the relative that gave the student such a weapon.
