Lamu Island native Omar Lali, the boyfriend of late Keroche breweries heiress Tecra Muigai was finally released yesterday.

A Lamu court freed him on a Sh300, 000 bond and two sureties. He was arrested in early May this year as the main suspect in Tecra's death, after she fell down a plight of stairs at a villa they were renting in Lamu.

The Principal Magistrate Allan Sitati declined to extend Lali's detention after the 21-day period as requested by police to conduct more investigations into the death of Tecra expired on Tuesday.

Lali and Tecra were in a relationship and his family came out to support him after his arrest, saying that he was a victim of love. His cousin, Mohamed Ali Mohamed in a previous interview with Standard revealed that Tecra had converted to Islam because of her lover and lived together as wife and husband.

'Omar is very famous; he is known to have children even abroad with different women but as a family, we cannot judge him but had to accept his new wife after he introduced her to us. We are wondering why Lali is being treated as a criminal yet the family was aware of the relationship,' Mohamed said.

His mother  Aisha Mohamed Lali showed support to her son throughout the whole period and on Wednesday after he was freed, she was in court.
