The world has made people think that being black is ugly. Black people have been called all sorts of names simply because of their skin color.

This issue has been so bad to a point some black people have been bleaching their skin, yaani "Kutoa tint".

A South Sudanese-American university student has been signed to one of the world's biggest modelling agencies after this photo of her went viral.

19 year old Anok Yai is a student at Plymouth State University in the US studying biochemistry. She was in Washington, D.C. last weekend for the historically Black university’s homecoming festivities when she was spotted by photographer Steven Hall who was taking photos of stylish attendees.

Of all the photos he took, this specific photo had over 17.5k likes on his instagram account with almost 500 comments of people saying how beautiful she is.

In an interview with Washington Post newspaper Anok Yai said;

"When the Instagram post got to a couple thousand and it just kept going higher and higher, I was surprised. And I was happy. I always wanted it to happen, but it was something I never expected."

At first, she thought it was an “average photo” and that she’d possibly gain a few new followers from the post. Yai told The Boston Globe;

“My phone just started vibrating rapidly for a long, long time. At first, I honestly thought someone made a meme of me or something.”

It was the exact opposite reaction with many commenting on how beautiful she was and how she deserved a modelling contract. Yai wasn’t prepared for what would happen and just like that Yai is getting ready for her “dream” career. She said;

“It was a dream that I always wanted, but I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen,”

She has been contacted by several modelling agencies and signed with Next Models on Tuesday. She is planning to pursue model part-time while she continues college.
