'We used to work and were were not paid,' Papa Shirandula's last interview with Churchill

Charles Bukeko popularly known as Papa Shirandula created a niche for himself in the flooded comedy industry.

His passion for acting and support local content earned him  a huge fanbase.

Papa Shirandula who died last week and laid to rest on Monday left a legacy. He epitomised the joy and optimism of Kenyans.

Well, on Sunday, Papa Shirandula's last interview with comedian Churchill and appearance on the Churchill Show was aired on NTV.

In the interview, Papa Shirandula, who gained global fame after he starred in the Coca-Cola 'brrr' advert encouraged upcoming artistes to be patient and work hard.

'I look at the journey and see Not where i'm coming from but where I'm going...kitu funny, tunafanya job (acting) roho safi na hatulipwi [We used to work and we were not paid]. You'd do it without knowing if you were going to be paid or not. SHow ikiisha hamna pesa. It was really bad,' he said.

Papa Shirandula reminisced the old days before he started earning from his career, showering Churchill with praises.

'I remember I used to live in Uhuru estate and would wait for 1-2 pm buses so that we could pay Sh10 fare and stand throughout the trip. I respect that journey. I look at what God had done to me and him (Churchill) and every other person, I say manze God.... If you're ever going to do anything to me don't ever allow me to disrespect the journey, or the destination,' he added.
