With recent claims of corruption and misuse of public funds by county governments, it is no wonder that every step made by county governors now is going under the microscope. Vihiga County boss Moses Akaranga is the latest to attract such scrutiny after he did something that can only be described as laughable if not just sad.

Done

A few months ago, Governor Akaranga made headlines following an announcement that the county had set aside Sh200M for the Miss Tourism Kenya Finals which will take place next year. That earned the Vihiga Governor at least a full day as the trending topic on social media as many criticized his misplaced priorities, for a county that ranks among the poorest in Kenya.

Well, this time round he did one better, he spent county resources in building a mud house for an elderly woman. For Akaranga, it must have seemed like such a noble cause, one that would earn him both praise and love from the county residents. He was responding to an appeal by the old woman who feared that her old hut would be easily swept away by floods from the El Nino rains. What shocked many, was the fact that what the Governor built for the woman was not very different from what she had. It was just a newer house made from fresher mud.
