Conjestina Achieng' the former Kenyan female boxer has faded into insignificance despite having made our nation proud. Back in the day, Conje, as she is popularly known, was a darling to many both locally and internationally. The strong woman took her career seriously; whenever she went for a boxing competition, Conjestina always did her best to emerge top, but now she has been reduced to a beggar in her home county Siaya.

Where is the government and her fans to help the former superstar?

Conjestina is currently languishing in abject poverty and has been forced to beg for money from place to place to satisfy her love for cheap liquor, a trait that has made many reject her.

Recently, Conjestina escaped death by a whisker after a group of youths along the Kisumu - Busia highway gave her a dog's beating. According to sources, there was a thief who was being mobbed after he was caught red-handed stealing and as a good Samaritan, Conjestina tried to rescue the thief but the unruly mob turned on her, beating her and leaving her with severe injuries.

"There was a thief who was being beaten by a mob. Conjestina went there to try to pacify the situation and also help stop the mob from beating the alleged thief to death.”

“However, they turned tables on her and beat her thoroughly! They only stopped battering her when some men and I appeared at the scene. They all ran away.”

Conjestina's elder brother William Ochieng' said in a recent media interview.
