AFC Leopards is arguably the best-supported team in East Africa, at least according to the club’s fan magazine the Ingwe Fan. With 12 premier league titles, 9 Cup titles, and five regional titles, the felines or Ingwe as it’s popularly known are one of the most successful clubs in the region.
But a poor start to this year’s season is nothing to smile about and could yet again lock the sleeping giants out of next year’s continental competitions hence tainting the Jubilee celebrations. Established in 1964, the club celebrated her 50th-anniversary last year, but all seems not to be well with the top club in the Kenyan Premier League. Ingwe has been experiencing a lot of challenges; poor management, lack of proper training facilities and the major one being the financial crisis that they are still going through; but wait, where did the money Victor Wanyama and other Luhya political leaders donated to the club disappear to?
Well, Ingwe officials know best. Players still suffer. They play but later sleep on empty stomachs. Who in this world will work without pay for more than a month? Comprising three sections, here is my message to AFC Leopards.
