Citizen TV's Waihiga Mwaura has become a household name on the continent thanks to his great work.
Waihiga, who recently won the much-coveted CNN Africa journalist of the year award in the sports category was an actor in his 20s, before joining media.

He didn't study journalism in school and during his acting days, he used to drop CVs at media houses hoping to get a job.
That experience was an eye-opener. I got into it thinking that I would be the next Will Smith but I left there humbled. Portraying different emotions on cue is hard! I have a deep respect for actors,' HE SAID IN PAST MEDIA INTERVIEWS.

The news anchor's breakthrough came after he was offered a job at Citizen TV a few years ago.
He used the chance to enroll for journalism courses and here he is, an award-winning journalist.
I was always aware of my lack of formal media training so I kept taking every opportunity to learn. I applied for training programs and talked to seasoned journalists. I was also very persistent and strove to bring something unique to the table,' he said.
